Established in 2016 by Dr Rob Paterson, Hunter Valley Oncology is a patient centred, holistic cancer care service that supports you along your whole cancer journey, including pre-diagnosis, post-diagnosis and cancer treatment.
Hunter Valley Oncology aims to:
- help you make sense of your diagnosis and treatment options
- give you sound medical advice based on the best available evidence
- offer personalised care, tailored to suit you and your family’s situation
- offer patient information and education face-to-face and online
- ensure access to other relevant specialists and allied health professionals.
Dr Paterson has welcomed the opportunity to design and develop an independent oncology service that will fulfill the care needs of many patients in the Newcastle area. A unique offering of the practice is a choice about where treatment is received, with different locations available.
Supported by a strong network of specialists including surgeons, radiation oncologists and palliative care services, Hunter Valley Oncology is your integrated oncology service. Access to vital allied health providers is ensured at our different locations, including psychology, physiotherapy, dietitians, social workers, occupational therapy and a breast care nurse.
The practice currently offers weekly clinics at Newcastle Private Hospital and at The Clark Suites in Gateshead. Plans for future expansion of the practice include forging partnerships with additional specialists and practitioners, and the addition of new locations in order for the practice to service a wider area.
Patients requiring chemotherapy are provided with this service at Newcastle Private Hospital or Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, depending on which is more convenient to them.
